19
[2.4.x] The MARIO_OBJECT Set
20
------------------------------------------------------------------------
21
Congrats! You've found the semi-hidden page on the Mario objects.
22If
23
you have never tried fRaBs before you may be wondering "What the
24Hell
25
does Mario have to do with Abuse".
26
Thanks to Profound's 'Twisted Minds' addon for Abuse, fRaBs has
27a very
28
nice set of objects taken from the classic NES game, Super Mario
29Bros.
30
Authentic question-mark blocks, foreground art, goombas, koopas,
31pipes,
32
and even Mario and Luigi themselves. You're still Nick Vrenna aka
33the
34
Abuse Guy, and your job is to kill all this crazy shit. Yep. If
35that
36
means killing Mario and Luigi themselves, then so be it. :)
37
The conversions are not perfectly accurate to the original Super
38Mario
39
Bros. but Profound has come damn close. And if I may say so, the
40idea
41
of making my own Mario levels for Abuse was quite cool. :) If you
42want
43
to actually make your own levels for Super Mario Bros. on your
44computer,
45
you might want to visit Zophar's
46Domain for some emulation-related
47
files that can get you started.
48
Now let's take a look at the objects.
49
MARIO_BLOCKB
50
        These are the brownish
51'brick' blocks that Super Mario could bust
52
        open with his head.
53As for you, you have to shoot them. Their AI
54
        can be changed so that
55when they are shot they leave a gift for
56
        the player in the form
57of a Mushroom, Flower or Star.
58
MARIO_BLOCKH
59
        This block is the metal
60question-block that has already been shot
61
        before. It is merely
62scenery and does nothing.
63
MARIO_BLOCKQ
64
        The question-block.
65It acts like the brick blocks only when shot
66
        it leaves the metal
67BLOCKH behind, just like the regular question
68
        blocks in Super Mario
69Bros... when you hit them with your head,
70
        you couldn't hit them
71again.
72
MARIO_BULLETBILL
73
        The classic missile
74turret. Don't try jumping on the missiles to
75
        kill them... neither
76the missiles nor the Bullet Bill itself are
77
        able to take damage
78from any weapon.
79
MARIO_ENEMYMUSH
80
        Remember the little
81brown goombas? :) Like all the Mario objects,
82
        jumping on them is useless...
83just blast them with a weapon. On
84
        the default settings,
85these guys are pathetically easy, so don't
86
        waste any powerful weapons
87on them unless you're just feeling
88
        really really heartless.
89
MARIO_ENEMYTRTL
90
        It's a koopa with a
91green shell. You'll notice that both this and
92
        the goomba act really
93similar. Neither have any reservations about
94
        walking straight into
95pits, so make sure you structure your levels
96
        so that they can put
97up a fight.
98
MARIO_LUIGI
99
        Luigi apparently has
100problems with futuristic-looking guys in armor
101
        with laser guns and
102whatnot, so he tries his best to fend you off
103
        with his slowly-bouncing
104fireballs. Maybe it threatens his sense of
105
        masculinity... who knows.
106
MARIO_MARIO
107
        Mario's faster than
108Luigi and he shoots faster fireballs as well.
109
        Neither are very difficult
110though, and both are quite happy walking
111
        off of cliffs. I'll
112bet you were the same way by the time you made
113
it to Level 8-3 in Super
114Mario Bros. I know I was.
115
MARIO_PIPECROSS
116
        This is a pipe object
117that crosses. You'll probably want to attach
118
        other pipe objects to
119it because it looks pretty silly alone. NOTE
120
        ABOUT THE PIPE OBJECTS
121- The player may fall through them when just
122
        standing on top, so
123they may need to be reinforced with a few of the
124
        HIDDEN_BLOCK objects.
125
MARIO_PIPEDOWN
126
        This is a pipe that
127opens downward. Good for placing on the ceiling.
128
MARIO_PIPEHORI, MARIO_PIPEVERT
129
        Neither end of these
130pipes open. If you attach the other PIPE objects
131
        to one of these, you
132can get some pretty long looking pipes.
133
MARIO_PIPELEFT, MARIO_PIPERIGHT
134
        You guessed it... one
135opens left, and one opens right.
136
MARIO_PIPEUP
137
        These are the pipes
138that you could press down on and go into secret
139
        areas with. Perfect
140for use with MARIO_VENUS or the SENSOR_TELEPORTER
141
        objects.
142
MARIO_POWERCOIN
143
        Unlike coins in Mario,
144these coins give you a whopping 4 health.
145
        Don't risk your life
146for one of these.
147
MARIO_POWERFLOW
148
        The Fire Flower doesn't
149let you shoot fireballs... the flamethrower
150
        does good enough in
151that regard. Instead, this acts similar to the
152
        POWER_HEALTH object
153and rewards you with an immediate 20-health gain
154
        and the ability to gain
155up to 200 health.
156
MARIO_POWERSTAR
157
        This acts just like
158a POWER_FAST object. Sorry, no invincibility.
159
MARIO_POWERTOAD
160
        The classic super mushroom
161gives you 20 health, just like the HEART
162
        or the MEDKIT does.
163
MARIO_PROPBRID
164
        The Mario artwork set
165has a whopping four foreground tiles. All the
166
        other scenery is in
167the form of objects, such as this bridge. They
168
        were in those flying
169fish levels in Super Mario Bros, and they don't
170
        act any differently
171in Abuse. Stand on these or fall into pits...
172
        your choice.
173
MARIO_PROPBUSH
174
        You'll recognize this
175little green bush. Provides nice scenic effect.
176
MARIO_PROPCLDS
177
Put a few of these in
178the sky if you're keen on staying true to the
179
        original Mario levels.
180
MARIO_PROPHILL
181
        Same with these little
182green hills.
183
MARIO_PROPHILL2
184
If you want to get funky,
185add a bigass hill instead of a little one.
186
        These dwarf all the
187other Mario objects. :)
188
MARIO_PROPPLAT
189
        These small girder platforms
190don't act like SMART_PLATFORMs, but you
191
        can still do some interesting
192things with them if you use OBJ_MOVERs.
193
MARIO_PROPTREE, MARIO_PROPTREE2
194
        Small trees and big
195trees. Both of these were everywhere in the
196
        normal Mario levels.
197
MARIO_VENUS
198
        The classic pirahna
199plant. It's a bit more deadly this time around,
200
        so I recommend you shoot
201it on sight.
202
MARIO_YOSHI
203
        At the end of every
204fourth stage in Super Mario Bros, you always had
205
        to face a variation
206of Bowser. There are no Bowser objects in the
207
        object set... instead,
208we have a huge Yoshi that licks you to death.
209
        It's pretty cute :).
210Make sure you give it lots of life because if you
211
        don't then he will die
212fast.
